Our family are not huge TV fanatics. We love the occasional movie night. We have couple of shows we watch with our eldest daughter and we like watching a few football games (especially on the other side of the world). I also find that PBS is a great resource for science shows.
How to get TV that feels like home
We have a Roku that we use at home and we love it. We cut cable and satellite 1-2 years ago. The device is small so it fits nicely in our bags. We use mostly Hulu with Disney Plus at home but it did not work internationally. We used NetFlix when travelling. We purchase some shows (like Samantha Brown) on Amazon. Other apps like the Stars app (for Outlander) will not work outside of the country either. Usually you can find a few English shows on local TV as well (we watched Home Sweet Home Alabama from our hotel in Morocco).
You will find that NetFlix will have different content available in different countries. I generally feel the selection is larger outside of the country but sometimes it’s just different.
In Canada and Costa Rica, my hubby and I were able to cuddle up at night and catch up on our shows. In Europe, our daily schedule is not the same so we very rarely watch TV at night. We watched a few shows in Copenhagen but likely won’t watch much of anything in Spain (also the internet is giving us trouble).
Another service or app to check out is US TV now It’s free and allows you to watch the network and other US channels. We used this to get football games while in Costa Rica and Morocco. The hubby set an alarm for the middle of the night our first few days in Morocco, watched Alabama win the National Championship and talked smack via text – all from Africa. It was a fun experience.
